A former Brooklyn teacher was indicted by a grand jury Wednesday for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student.
Mervyn Affoon is accused of sexually assaulting the student inside Erasmus Hall High School and then paying him.
Affoon is facing multiple charges of criminal sexual acts and sexual misconduct, sexual abuse, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child.
The victim's attorney says the abuse was ongoing from February 2017 to June 2017 and was initiated again when the school year resumed in September.
However, Affoon's attorney says his client is not guilty. He says the allegations are an attempt to extort money from his client since the victim's family has filed an $11 million lawsuit against the city for failing to protect their son.
Affoon is set to appear in court again on May 15.
