Business Briefs: Tesla, Waymo, Online shoppingPosted: Updated:
Tesla may be cheating the system to make its factories seem more safe. According to an investigative report by Reveal News, Tesla has been mislabeling worker injuries to improve its safety record. Many serious injuries were logged as minor accidents or personal medical issues, and some were not reported at all. The report also says one factory overlooked safety precautions to improve the aesthetic in order to please company CEO Elon Musk.
Waymo is going driverless in California. The company reportedly applied for a new permit to utilize its autonomous minivan technology without safety drivers behind the wheel. The permit was only just made available at the beginning of the month. Waymo already has driverless cars operating in Phoenix.
The Supreme Court may make online shopping more expensive. Over 40 states want the Supreme Court to revisit a rule that says retailers don't have to collect sales tax if they are shipping to a state where they don't have a physical location. The states say they are losing billions in tax revenue each year, which is actually leading to cuts in government programs.
