Man arrested in connection with July shooting
Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a shooting that injured another man nine months ago in Norwalk.
Marquel Middleton did not enter a plea as he made his first court appearance Thursday afternoon on charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment, illegal discharge of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit.
His case has been transferred to Stamford, which is routine for more serious charges.
On July 9, the Sunday after the Fourth of July holiday, some people who heard the gunfire assumed it came from leftover fireworks.
But police say a street fight broke out on Plymouth Avenue, leading to a shooting. They accuse Middleton of wounding an 18-year-old man.
Investigators say it was a targeted shooting. Police have not released further details about a motive, and the arrest warrant is sealed.
"We want to stress that the public's cooperation in this particular incident was extremely helpful in the detective's ability to solve this crime," says Lt. Terry Blake, of the Norwalk Police Department.
A judge set bond at $500,000. Police had also made earlier arrests in connection with the same case.
