Students, teachers and advisers at James Madison High School celebrated an unprecedented number of college acceptances Tuesday.
Some of their destinations are Cornell University, Carnegie Mellon University, Syracuse University, Howard University, the Rochester Institute of Technology and a number of SUNY schools.
"We've had a number of Macaulay Honors recipients," says Helen Rosado, a college advisor, referring to the CUNY honors college.
In all, 90 percent of the school's seniors have been accepted to colleges this year.
"In the past years, at this point in the game, 60 to 65 percent," Rosado says. "We are really pulling in the numbers, and we are really pushing our kids."
Senior Valkyrie Hardy was placed on the Harvard University wait list, but she has decided to attend Cornell this fall to major in pre-med.
"I've always dreamed of that," she says. "But I never thought I would get into it."
