A Cranford police officer received an invitation that he never expected to get.
A group of children on Stratford Terrace flagged down Officer Matthew Siessel while he was on patrol earlier this week to ask him to attend a funeral for a beloved neighborhood squirrel named Peanut.
Officer Siessel said that he would be honored to attend and also gave the children a tour of his squad car.
The children set up a memorial by a tree with signs that said “R.I.P.” and “We will remember you.”
Cranford police says that this was certainly a first for any of their officers.
