A Bronx dry cleaner will receive a Tony Award next month for its service to the Broadway community.
Ernest Winzer Cleaners will be awarded the 2018 Tony for Excellence in the Theatre. The company has served the Broadway community for over a century. It has cleaned, pressed and tailored some of the most iconic costumes of the theater, including ones from “Hamilton,” “Frozen on Broadway” and “Spongebob Squarepants: The Broadway Musical.”
Bruce Barish took over the family business from his father, who passed away last year.
“It's nice to be recognized after 110 years, that they appreciate that we've been doing this," he said.
He told News 12 that the award not only honors his family, but it also honors the employees who have been with him for decades.
While some of the theaters are dark on Monday, Barish said that it is his busy day. He usually works until about midnight to 2 a.m. cleaning costumes.
"I've been here my whole life," he said. "Every day is different we never know what we're gonna get."
