Bronx mother in court over 2016 fire that killed her 2 kids

A Bronx mother appeared in court Thursday over accusations that she left her two young daughters alone in an apartment with incense burning, allegedly causing a 2016 building fire in Claremont that killed the girls.
Police say they believe Haya Konte's careless act killed the girls, who were aged 18 months and 2 years. The judge on Thursday denied News 12's request to film the court appearance.
Konte is charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide and child endangerment. She has pleaded not guilty.
Surveillance video from the day of the fire shows Konte running out of a laundromat across the street from her apartment after realizing it was on fire. Police say she may have left her daughters alone for about 40 minutes.
Konte is out on bond and is due back in court July 21.
