A chess tournament in Wakefield today carried a message of teaching kids that success in life is also about making the right moves.
Students from the Academy for Scholarship and Entrepreneurship battled Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation kids. Organizers from the Young Kings and Queens Chess Club say the real win is in their motto – picking up books and putting down weapons.
"I just want these kids to be better than they was yesterday, have better thoughts, better decision-making and better actions,” said chess instructor Romeo Davis.
"It gives us a lot of humbleness, discipline,” said Alexander Alamzar. “It teaches us instead of going outside and doing something stupid we could, you know, stay here and play a game of chess."
