New Jersey has lost thousands of United States service members over the years.
As Memorial Day approaches, all of them are to be commended.
News 12 New Jersey makes special mention of the last military member from New Jersey who died in the line of duty – Army Sgt. Mihail Golin.
Sgt. Golin lived in Fort Lee. He was a Green Beret who was shot in the chest in Afghanistan. He died on New Year’s Day.
Golin immigrated to New Jersey from Latvia. He spent 12 years in the Army Special Forces and was deployed to combat zones several times. 
His funeral was held at Arlington National Cemetery. He was 34 years old.
