Man accused of driving drunk, hitting pedestrian

A Huntington man is accused of driving drunk and critically injuring a pedestrian in Bay Shore.
Police say 23-year-old Edwin Rolando Santos-Romero was drunk behind the wheel of a Toyota Camry when he struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street around 9:45 p.m. Saturday on Fifth Avenue.
The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Jose Reyes, of Bay Shore.
Authorities say he suffered a traumatic brain injury and was rushed by ambulance to Southside Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
According to prosecutors, Santos-Romero admitted to drinking beer before he got behind the wheel.
Santos-Romero is charged with DWI. He pleaded not guilty in court Sunday and was ordered held on $30,000 bond.
Prosecutors say upgraded charges are expected.
