An illegal immigrant in France has been granted citizenship after a viral video showed him scaling an apartment building to save a dangling child.

Video shows Mamoudou Gassama, 22, climb up the balconies in Paris to rescue the 4-year-old who is clinging to a railing.

Gassama appears to be climbing the building quickly and effortlesy. The now viral-video has earned Gassama the nickname "Spider-Man."

But it also earned him French citizenship.

The immigrant from Mali was swiftly granted a meeting at the Elysee Palace with French President Emmanuel Macron who presented Gassama with a certificate of courage and dedication and the promise of permanent residency in the country.

Macron also offered Gassama a job as a French firefighter.
