A Brooklyn man is stepping in to care for his orphaned younger sisters after learning their 44-year-old mother died on Mother's Day.
Anthony Papa, 26, says his younger sisters, Gabrielle and Olivia, had lost their father more than a year ago. According to the Brooklyn Reporter, the cause was cancer.
Their mother was Bridget DeLeon, of Bensonhurst. The cause of her death was not immediately available.
"It's my job to do my responsibility and be the best example I can for them," Papa says.
With help from a local attorney, there is now a trust set up to help ensure Gabrielle and Olivia have a bright future.
The girls' dentist, Dr. Leona Kotlyer, is also helping out by offering them free dental care.
Papa says he's grateful for the community's support.
"It really is making a difference," he says. "I feel my mom would be very proud of all these things, and her legacy is really living on."
