BROOKLYN -

Brookdale Hospital and SUNY Downstate Medical Center joined together to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day.

Dozens of survivors and their loved ones gathered in Flatbush to celebrate life and thank their doctors for saving theirs.

People at the event shared stories of resilience and some even say they now work on helping other people cope with the disease and educate the community.

SUNY Downstate Medical Center reports that 80,000 people in Brooklyn are now cancer free.
