An eight-time Golden Gloves Champion female boxer from the Bronx is competing to represent Puerto Rico in the 2020 summer Olympic games.
Nisa Rodriguez was raised in the Bronx, and admittedly she says she was going down the wrong path until her father brought her into the boxing ring.
What started as a way to vent frustration quickly turned into a passion for the young teen.
By age 15, Rodriguez was competing.
Now 28 years old, Rodriguez is an eight-time Golden Gloves Champion, and she is on track to represent Puerto Rico in the 2020 summer Olympic games in Tokyo.
This summer she says she will continue in the qualifying efforts leading up to Olympics.
Rodriguez has family in Puerto Rico and is hoping to create more boxing gyms in the Bronx to give more kids an outlet to stay off of the streets.
