Commuters concerned after Brooklyn subway ceiling collapse
Posted: Updated:Many commuters and local officials are concerned after the ceiling of a subway fell to the ground and injured a woman standing below.
Service was restored on the 4 and 5 lines at the Court Street subway station after a part of the ceiling fell Wednesday.
The MTA says a woman sustained minor injuries when she was hit on the shoulder by tumbling debris, but refused medical attention at the scene.
The incident has once again raised concerns with commuters and local officials, who blame the MTA and the state for not funding enough repair work to the crumbling transit system.
Structural engineers responded to the scene to determine the cause of the collapse, but the MTA has yet to release an official cause.
New York City Transit President Andy Byford says it may have been caused by some water damage based on peeling paint.
