BROOKLYN -

A 16-year-old boy who was shot in the head Wednesday in Bed-Stuy has died, police say.

He was unconscious and bleeding at Lewis Avenue and Macon Street when an ambulance arrived and brought him to Kings County Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The shooting happened around 2 p.m.

Police say they have a person of interest in custody.

Surveillance video from a nearby restaurant shows the shooter open fire before fleeing down the street.

Mike Tucker is a member of the Lay the Guns Down Foundation. He says it's another "senseless act of gun violence" in the community.

"I don't need to know what happened," he says. "I need people to understand that this can't happen anymore."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
