Secrets of abandoned Chambers Street subway station

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

New York City's Chamber Street station may look a little run down, that's because it has not been an active subway terminal in eight decades.

The station hasn't been touched since the 1930s, Justin Rivers from Untapped Cities says.

Rivers says the Chambers station seized to be a terminal because the city built a Montaque tunnel to Brooklyn.

The Chambers station was used before the tunnel was built because there was no other Brooklyn service by the subway.

Staircases inside of the station stand abandoned since the 1930s and remain padlocked from the public.

A sign still hangs over the abandoned platform that reads 'Chambers Street.'

Parts of Chamber Street station are still accessible to the public because it is used by the MTA as a through station.

However, no train terminates at the station.
