Officials: Fire destroys Greenwich home

Posted: Updated:
GREENWICH -

Flames destroyed a Greenwich home early Friday morning, officials say.

They say the home on Locust Road was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived at the scene. Because of the size of the flames, the deputy fire chief says it was too dangerous to fight from inside.

The president of the Northwest Greenwich Homeowners Association tells News 12 the homeowners live in a larger house on the property. He says a relative recently moved out of the cottage that caught fire.

The property is near the New York state line. Officials say it took the first crew about 10 minutes to get there. They say the average response time in town is half of that.

The president of the homeowners association says he's been fighting for a fire station in northwest Greenwich for more than a decade.

There's no word on what caused the fire.
