Over 100 homes in Ocean County were evacuated Monday after flood waters forced them out, including Brick Township, where many people spent the night in a Red Cross shelter.
According to officials, 7 inches of rain fell in the town over the past 72 hours, with a majority of it falling Monday.
Brick Township officials declared a state of emergency due to the flooding conditions.
Most of the water receded by Monday night, but the damage had already been done.
On Bursville Road, several cars were submerged. Residents say although there is a pumping station around the corner, it isn’t working, and the area does not have good drainage.
Residents say the county had fixed the roadway and put in the pumping station to prevent flooding, but it happened anyway.
