Public library in Melrose expanding to accommodate community

The New York Public Library in Melrose is set to undergo an expansion to create a third floor all for children.
A quarter of a million dollars will be used to build a third floor to accommodate the growing needs of the Melrose community. More than 100,000 people visit the branch each year.
Library officials say the top floor will be for children, the second floor for adults and the lower level will be for teens.
In addition to the renovation, the funding will also go toward expanding literacy programs for adults and students.
Construction is slated to begin in 2020 and last between 18 to 24 months. Library officials say the branch will be closed during the renovation.
