Hundreds of students get free school supplies in Newark

Hundreds of students in Newark got free backpacks packed with school supplies Saturday.
Officers from the Bronze Shields, the Newark Police Department's African-American organization hand-packed notebooks, pencils and crayons into the backpacks.
The backpack event was also hosted by the city, the Shani Baraka Center and the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church to benefit city youth.
The first day of school in Newark is Sept. 4.
