Muslims around the world celebrated the Eid holiday Tuesday.
Hundreds filled the streets of Glenmore Avenue in East New York Tuesday for a prayer service.
Eid al-Adha, or feast of sacrifice, is considered one of the most important holidays for the Islamic people.
The holiday is also known as the feast of the sacrifice. It commemorates Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his only son to express his devotion to Allah. The celebration continues with visiting friends and family, a great feast and giving back to the less fortunate.
The day is marked with the sacrifice of an animal, usually a sheep, goat or cow, and the meat is distributed among family members, the community and the poor.
Eid al-Adha will last until Saturday, Aug. 25.
