Cuomo issues order to turn back on city speed cameras

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday issued an executive order to turn back on speed cameras in New York City school zones.
The cameras were deactivated in late July after the state Senate failed to authorize their use.
According to published reports, City Council brokered a deal between Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio to reinstate the cameras. It's set to take effect next Tuesday, just a day before public schools reopen.
Advocacy groups like Transportation Alternatives applauded the move but said they still want the state Senate to pass legislation for continued use of the cameras.
For the time being, tickets will once again be issued to drivers caught speeding by the cameras.
