Some City Council members are looking to introduce legislation that would legalize electric scooters.
Residents were able to try out the electric scooters Thursday at Restoration Plaza. The scooters are made by California-based startup company Bird.
City Councilman Robert Cornegy says he believes his district would benefit from the scooters. He says it is a way to give minority communities a chance to experience new technology and new industries.
Officials from the company Bird say they look forward to working with city officials to implement the new rides.
The scooters would be used in bike lanes, something many people agree is the right place for them. The scooters are already available in 40 cities worldwide.
