Tempers ran high during a court appearance Tuesday for one of two people suspected of killing and dismembering 25-year-old Lisa Marie Velasquez.
Velasquez's family was visibly upset after a relative of Ciara Martinez shouted out to her words of encouragement. The victim's family shouted words of their own, calling Martinez "a murderer."
A family member of Martinez's was seen running from cameras and refusing to talk to reporters. The mother of the second suspect, Daquan Wheeler, said her son is innocent.
Wheeler's court appearance was rescheduled for this Thursday, the same day as Velasquez's viewing.
Both Martinez and Wheeler are accused of beating Velasquez with a hammer, cutting up her body and dumping the remains in separate Bronx parks. They each face charges of murder, manslaughter and concealing a human corpse.
