Stamford officials completed the first phase of a project to improve traffic safety in the city's Waterside neighborhood.

The work focused on the intersection of Selleck, Southfield and Greenwich avenues.
             
Crews widened the roads, added a turn lane, installed new sidewalks, and replaced the traffic lights.
             
Mayor David Martin says the project is part of the city's overall effort to improve traffic and transportation.  

The second and third phase include creating a roundabout at Greenwich Avenue as well as a one-way traffic loop.
