#N12BK: NYCHA independent monitorPosted: Updated:
Over 100 NYCHA tenants will testify Wednesday in front of a judge about why an independent monitor should be assigned to the housing authority.
Tenants will speak before a judge and recount their experiences living inside of NYCHA buildings riddled with mold, and lead water.
In June, 2018, U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman and NYCHA made a deal to appoint a federal monitor to the housing authority.
The monitor would make sure NYCHA provides housing which meets or complies with federal law.
Berman extended the deadline on independent monitor applications earlier in September.
The city, NYCHA officials and prosecutors are scheduled to press their case during a Sept. 26 court hearing.
