In an effort to destigmatize mental illness, the city is working to detect depression early with free screenings.
New York City Health + Hospitals offered free screenings and referrals at 14 locations, including four in the Bronx.
Mental health professionals at the Lincoln location are conducting confidential screenings as part of individual consultations. The screenings ask a list of specific questions, including if someone feels hopeless about the future.
If someone missed Thursday's screenings, people can call 1-888-NYC-WELL 24/7 to receive more information.
Depression is a common medical condition in which a person suffers from chronic low mood, loss of interest, distress, trouble concentrating and feelings of worthlessness. Doctors say another warning sign is struggle sleeping.
Those requiring a follow-up will be referred to treatment within each location.
