The prosecution rested its case today in the trial of Oscar Hernandez, who is accused of killing his girlfriend Nidia Gonzalez and stabbing her friend Brenda Castellano in February 2017.
Most of the testimony today focused on Castellano, who is the state's star witness. Castellano said she was in the bathroom at the couple's Bridgeport home when she heard Gonzalez call for help. She said she saw Hernandez with a knife to Gonzalez's neck and that's when he attacked her.
Castellano told the court she held her breath to make Hernandez think she was dead so that he would stop stabbing her.
Hernandez also took the stand. His testimony continues Wednesday.
