A Marble Hill family is calling on NYCHA to help with a gnat and mildew problem in their apartment.
Taimia Prater says she has a gnat infestation in her apartment after a leak from the wall started about four weeks ago. She says the insects are everywhere and are now starting to bite her son.
Prater's son, Corde Chapmen, has bites on his arm. They got so bad that she took him to the hospital.
Prater says she has been going back and forth with NYCHA about getting help, but adds that all she has been given so far is sticky paper and roach traps.
A NYCHA spokesperson tells News 12 that crews treated the mildew condition Tuesday, and Prater will be getting new kitchen cabinets and paint. Permanent repairs are scheduled for the leak problem, and an exterminator is set to go to the apartment.
NYCHA released a statement saying, "We apologize to our resident for any inconvenience and are working to make any necessary repairs as quickly as possible."
