The NYPD is taking any and all precautions as authorities continue investigating homemade bombs sent to numerous addresses nationwide.
A patrol car was seen outside U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer's Park Slope apartment building on Prospect Park West throughout the day Thursday. There was no word on whether Schumer was there, but his address is well-known to most people in the area. It's near a heavily trafficked intersection of Grand Army Plaza.
Suspicious packages containing crude pipe bombs were sent to media outlets and top Democratic leaders, causing law enforcement to take proactive measures and position officers at sensitive sites. Schumer has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, like many of those targeted by the explosives.
Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi released a joint statement in which they said: "Time and time again, the President has condoned physical violence and divided Americans with his words and his actions: expressing support for the Congressman who body-slammed a reporter, the neo-Nazis who killed a young woman in Charlottesville, his supporters at rallies who get violent with protestors, dictators around the world who murder their own citizens, and referring to the free press as the enemy of the people."
Nearby residents tell News 12 they're disturbed by the recent events.
