Former New York Attorney General Eric Scheniderman will not face charges in an abuse investigation.

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas, who is overseeing the case as the special prosecutor, made the announcement today.

In a statement, Singas said, "I believe the women who shared their experiences with our investigation team, however, legal impediments, including statutes of limitations, preclude criminal prosecution. Our investigation also highlighted deficiencies in New York law for which I have drafted remedial legislation. "

Singas says her team interviewed members of Schneiderman's security detail, employees who worked with him at the New York Attorney General's Office and witnesses.

Schneiderman stepped down six months ago from his post after multiple women came forward with allegations of assault.

The New Yorker interviewed women who said Schneiderman hit and choked them.

One of Schneiderman’s accusers, Michelle Manning Barish, voiced her frustration with the decision on Twitter.
