A newly elected official hit the streets of Bay Ridge Friday to personally thank those who voted for him in the midterm elections.
Democrat Max Rose unseated incumbent Rep. Dan Donovan for the 11th District on Tuesday.
Donovan has served in Congress since 2015. He was the only Republican in New York City's congressional delegation. The district, which covers Staten Island and a small part of Brooklyn, typically votes red.
Rose is an Army veteran who plans to focus on issues like national infrastructure and fighting the opioid epidemic.
"We didn't get into this to win an election," Rose says. "We got into this to change politics and start to actually help people."
Rose says he is looking forward to officially starting his duties next year.
