DOE cancels field trips, after-school programs following snowstorm

New York City students were back in school Friday, but after-school programs were canceled.
The announcement came after Thursday's snowstorm caused traffic problems across the five boroughs.
All field trips using yellow buses, adult education classes and PSAL games were also canceled. The Department of Education says it wanted students to have a safe day.
While many students were disappointed by not going to their activities, parents mostly thought it was the right thing to do.
New York City's schools chancellor says 10 to 15 percent of school buses were affected by Thursday's storm.
The chancellor also said that they will be trying to communicate with parents better and earlier in the future.
