Volunteers pack Thanksgiving meals for needy families in Westport
Dozens of volunteers spent their Saturday morning packing bags with Thanksgiving meals for a local food rescue.
Fairfield County's Food Rescue US Basket Brigade brought in turkeys, canned foods, potatoes, reusable bags and more for families in need.
Local grocery stores donated food to the cause. Nicole Straight, of Food Rescue US, says the nonprofit's mission is to end food insecurity in the community.
The volunteers also delivered the food across the county after packing bags and organizing meals.
This year, the nonprofit says they opted for reusable grocery bags instead of baskets so families would have a bag to store food and groceries.
They urged anyone who would like to help to download the Food Rescue US app.
