A Bronx councilman is demanding the city drop the contract of a construction company after claims that construction workers hurled disparaging remarks at needy seniors.
Councilman Rafael Salamenca is leading a battle cry, demanding the city cuts ties with Halcyon Construction Corporation.
“They are bringing people outside our communities to do these jobs and then disrespect our community,” he says.
Salamenca is referring to an incident on Friday where he says construction workers made offensive remarks toward community health workers and seniors at a food pantry in Longwood.
The councilman says the construction company informed him that the worker who made the remarks was removed from the site, but he says that's not enough to right this wrong.
Protesters say they want Halcyon replaced with local workers who are part of the Bronx community.
