Ten students from a Williamsburg-based leadership organization for students went on a shopping spree at the Target on Queens Boulevard, thanks to a partnership between the Mets Foundation and Delta Airlines.
For the last three years, the organizations have paired up with a nonprofit to find families who can't afford many gifts during the holidays. This year, they paired up with students from El Puente Leaders for Peace and Justice.
Those selected live in a nearby NYCHA development at the Taylor Wythe Houses.
They each received a $400 gift card to spend on themselves, and another $400 gift card to spend on their family. They also got to shop around with some New York Mets.
“Anytime you can help out the kids, it’s fun,” says pitcher Zack Wheeler. “It’s a good thing to do, especially this time of year.”
