BROOKLYN -

Police say a man who was changing a tire was fatally struck in a hit-and-run, and now a search is underway for the driver who left the scene.

It happened on East 28th Street and Shore Parkway in Sheepshead Bay just before 7 p.m. Saturday. Police say the 65-year-old victim was struck by a white Toyota minivan, which then drove off.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the minivan was found abandoned a few blocks from the scene, at Emmons Avenue and Bragg Street.

Neighbors tell News 12 that cars often speed through the area where the crash happened.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
