Police: Truck driver fatally strikes bicyclist, leaves the scene

EAST NEW YORK -

A hit-and-run in East New York left a bicyclist dead early Friday morning.

Officials say it happened around 12:30 a.m. A white box truck, possibly a delivery truck, was driving eastbound on Pitkins Avenue when it tried to make a right turn onto Atkins Avenue. That's when police say the driver fatally struck 21-year-old M.D. Rajon.

Police say they are still looking for the driver.

Rajon's family says he was coming home from work, a job he got to provide a better life for himself and his family in Bangladesh. They say they want to send his body back to Bangeldesh to his parents.

His family says they are also looking to get their other son out of a Texas jail after they say he was locked up by immigration.

Officials say anyone with information is asked to call police.
