An 82-year-old Connecticut man with dementia who was reported missing caused a wrong-way crash on the Wantagh State Parkway Tuesday night, according to state police.
Authorities say Burgess Moore was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on the parkway near the Sunrise Highway at Exit W5 when he struck a vehicle head-on. A third car was unable to avoid the crash.
The New Britain man is in critical condition at Nassau University Medical Center with facial injuries and a broken hip.
The two other drivers and a passenger all had injuries that were not considered to be serious.
It was not immediately clear how long Moore was missing for or how long he was traveling the wrong way.
