An underpass in the Bronx is getting a facelift.

The restoration process for the Soundview underpass is underway

The district assemblyman explains that the project will be done in two separate phases and that completion of the work can be expected by early 2019.

He says the New York State Department of Transportation will start by cleaning the surrounding sidewalk and fences, put in place new gravel and remove soil for the area.

They hope to increase lighting in the area as well as include solid planting along the sidewalks to stop dirt and waste from birds from piling up.

The second phase involves bringing together the community. They want community advice on how to create a more vibrate space that represents the area.

The assemblyman says that weather conditions can play a factor in that timeline.
