Crown Heights man’s plea for wife's kidney donation goes viral

CROWN HEIGHTS -

A Brooklyn woman might see a miracle in the new year after her husband’s public plea for a kidney went viral.

Raymond Thompson says his wife was diagnosed with kidney disease two years ago and since then no match has been found.

Thompson says he went on to seek help from the public, which proved effective when a photograph of Thompson in Target wearing a shirt that reads, “In need of a kidney for my wife, B-positive” went viral.

The photo has reached the Twitter walls and social media pages of strangers and celebrities alike across the country.

Thompson says the family has since received numerous phone calls from people wishing them luck and offering their kidneys.

Thompson says he is thankful that so many people around the borough and the world have offered their support and that they are hopeful they'll find a match for his wife.

He says his wife is changing hospitals so that they can accept organ donations for non-family members -- something their previous hospital didn't accommodate.

He says he will continue to wear the sign and hit the streets until a match is found.
