PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS -

Police responded to a call of shots fired in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens and then found themselves face to face with a barricaded suspect.

Police say they responded to the call around 5:30 a.m. at 292 Maple St.

Neighbors say there was a sound of gunshots followed by a huge police response and a three-hour standoff between the FBI and the barricaded man. Neither the police nor the FBI would confirm who fired the shots.

Federal law enforcement sources say the barricaded man was wanted in connection to a Queens homicide from 2017.

The Hostage Negotiation Team was inside for several hours before the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit went in, breaking the glass of the third-floor apartment he was inside of from the fourth floor.

After three hours, the man was loaded into an ambulance in police custody.

The super of the building told News 12 he was shocked when the FBI agents told him who they were looking for, saying he was a quiet tenant who lived there for years.

The man who was taken into custody was expected to be arraigned in federal court today.
