Gov. Andrew Cuomo is set to give his State of the State speech Tuesday at the state Capitol, and some key issues on his agenda are expected to be addressed.
Cuomo's priorities are expected to include legalizing recreational use of marijuana, making the 2 percent property tax cap permanent, and a possible restructuring of the MTA. The address will also include the Democratic governor's budget presentation.
The update from the governor comes as the new Democratic majority in the Senate gets to work. It marks the first time in years that Democrats control both houses of the Legislature as well as the governor's office, and lawmakers have already passed a series of bills.
One such bill will allow New Yorkers to vote prior to Election Day at designated polling places in an effort to make it easier for people to vote.
"Any way that we can make voting easier is going to mean that more people will have access to the system and more people's voices will be heard, and that is exactly what we should want as legislators and leaders in this state," says Alessandra Biaggi, the Bronx's newly sworn in state senator.
News12.com will carry live coverage of Cuomo’s address Tuesday at 2 p.m.
