An off-duty police officer was killed in a multivehicle accident on Shore Road in Pelham Bay Wednesday morning.
Police say Brian Kessler, 28, was on his way home to New Rochelle from Manhattan when he hit a New York City Parks Department truck head-on. He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi where he was pronounced dead.
Police are working to determine the cause of the accident, as there are a number of factors at play. Residents say the stretch of Shore Road has limited visibility and can be dangerous.
Police say Kessler was assigned to Police Service Area 8 housing, which serves NYCHA's developments in the 43rd and 45th precincts in the Bronx. Officials say he had been on the job since October.
Two parks department employees also suffered minor injuries.
AP wire services helped contribute to this report.
