Police say a Uniondale man starved two dogs so badly that one died.
The Nassau DA says Harold Nichols' 4-year-old Shepherd mix was found dead.
According to officials, the dog was 30 pounds underweight and found in an outdoor kennel that was wired shut.
Pieces of plastic bags were found in the dog's digestive tract.
Officials say a hungry and underweight German Shepherd puppy was also caged in the yard.
He was rescued and is expected to survive.
If convicted, Nichols faces up to one year in jail.
