Salt, sand and brine: Crews gear up to treat LI roads as storm takes aim

Major salting, sanding and brining operations were underway across Long Island Friday ahead of a bout of weekend wintry weather.
A storm is expected to bring a sloppy mixture of snow, sleet and rain Saturday into Sunday, followed by a frigid blast that could lead to frozen roadways and dangerous ice.
News 12's Erin Colton checked in with crews in the Town of Hempstead, who were busy working to get all the pieces in place for the storm response.
State police are advising drivers to avoid unnecessary travel this weekend to help keep the roads clear.
