The death of a 7-year-old boy in New Jersey's largest city is being investigated as suspicious.
Judy Ingram says that she wants justice for her great-nephew who she identified as Ayden Brown.
“If you’re out there and you killed my great-nephew, you need to turn yourself in...Quick, fast and in a hurry,” she says. “Because if you don’t, hell’s going to get you.”
The boy was found unresponsive when Newark police responded to reports of a sick or injured person at a Weequahic Avenue home around 8 a.m. Monday. He was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later.
Part of the street was sealed off all day as investigators with the Essex County Prosecutor’s office gathered evidence at the scene.
The incident left many in the neighborhood feeling sad and scared.
“I don’t know who in their right mind would do that. You have got to be a monster,” says neighbor Shaw Willis.
Authorities have not yet released details about how the child died or if anyone is facing charges in connection with his death.
Ingram says that the boy lived with his mother, the mother’s boyfriend and another adult.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
