A Gravesend family is crediting the 62nd Precinct with the return of their purloined pup following a break-in at their home.
The Azon family came home Thursday afternoon to find jewelry, laptops and video game equipment worth thousands of dollars had disappeared. But even worse: their 2-and-a-half-year-old golden retriever, named Scooby, was also gone.
The Azons say police were already in the area investigating a string of burglaries. Police arrested and charged 23-year-old Cory Gaudio, and Scooby was reunited with his worried family just a few hours after he went missing.
The Azon family is relieved to have Scooby back home, and thankful for the help from the 62nd Precinct officers.
"They supported us the whole way, I kept in contact with one of the officers," says dog owner Hashan Azon. "They gave us all of the information we needed and they helped us out the whole journey."
The family plans to install new locks and cameras to prevent future crimes.
