The recent deep freeze has taken its toll on a number of roads around the Bronx.
On Friday night, there was caution tape blocking off a portion of Old Albany Post Road. It looked almost like a sinkhole formed, with ice on top of it, making it impossible for cars to pass through.
The state Office of General Services alerted News 12 to the road. It says the road is what's left of a pre-Revolutionary War road that ran from New York City to Albany. The 800-foot-long road is the state's property, but its maintenance has been neglected.
Neighbors say the damage to the road has only grown worse over the years.
The Office of General Services tells News 12 that it is willing to transfer ownership of the land to the city Department of Transportation, hoping the city could repair and maintain it going forward.
